LightLIGHT

Strong light is the baseline. Too little light and the plant stretches, the reds, purples, and blacks of its colouring fade, and the silver dulls. At the same time, fierce summer afternoon sun can scorch leaf tips, and adjusting the light downward with shade netting can also be important, depending on the environment.

"It wants strong light" and "adjusting to the individual plant" do not contradict each other. Species that dislike direct sun, and plants that need a great deal of light, are grown in a house covered with polycarbonate. Polycarbonate scatters the light as it passes through, so direct sun never concentrates on a few leaves and overheats them, and the light reaches into the plant. The advantage of the method is that it lowers only the risk of scorch while keeping the light level up.
